Father Bukuru Zacharie was born in 1953 in Burundi. He studied at the Seminary of Bujumbura and at the University of Metz in France from which he obtained a Licence in Theology. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1984 and then taught at the Little Seminary of Buta in Burundi from 1984 to 2000, becoming the Rector of the Seminary in 1988. Since 2005 he is the Abbot of the Benedectine Monastery in Buta, Burundi.
