Mary Townsend
Mary Townsend is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at St. John’s University, Queens, NY. Previously, she was a Visiting Assistant Professor in Classics and Philosophy at Loyola University New Orleans. Her book, The Woman Question in Plato’s Republic (2017), addresses Plato’s use of Greek mythology as moral and political psychology, and makes the case for the Republic’s continuing relevance to contemporary debates in feminist philosophy. She has also written public-facing philosophy articles for places such as The Atlantic, The Hedgehog Review, and Plough Quarterly, on topics ranging from mental health, moral relativism, and the moral implications of beauty.
