A Singing Heart
This year the Encounter is introducing us to a new adventure. Composing a song is letting one’s heart speak in two ways: through melody and words. Songwriting is certainly a gift but it’s also a craft. Millions of people down through the centuries have tried to put together a tune turning their joy and pain, their hopes and disappointments into notes, from two chords barely strummed on a guitar somewhere in the secret of a room to the most beautiful symphony played in a concert hall. We proposed this contest to give voice to this elementary and at the same time profound expression of heart and mind. A jury made up of professional musicians, composers, and singers will choose the five most compelling singer-songwriters and bring them to perform at the Encounter on Saturday evening.
