"Setting Out on the Long Path of Renewal" (Pope Francis)
Reflections on Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato Si' (On Care for Our Common Home) with Sean Cardinal O’MALLEY, Archbishop of Boston; Jeffrey SACHS, Director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University; and Rebecca VITZ CHERICO (moderator), Instructor in Spanish Studies, Villanova University. This event is organized in collaboration with the Research Cluster on Science and Subjectivity.
”What kind of world do we want to leave to those who come after us, to children who are now growing up? This question not only concerns the environment in isolation; the issue cannot be approached piecemeal. When we ask ourselves what kind of world we want to leave behind, we think in the first place of its general direction, its meaning and its values. Unless we struggle with these deeper issues, I do not believe that our concern for ecology will produce significant results. We need to see that what is at stake is our own dignity. The issue is one which dramatically affects us”
— Pope Francis, Laudato Si’
Cardinal O’Malley and Dr. Sachs will help the public to appreciate the concerns that moved Pope Francis to write the Laudato Si’ and the impact the Encyclical is having on the political and economic world.
