Darren Burris discovered his passion for education in the School District of Philadelphia as a math teacher and is currently the Director of Instruction for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) at Boston Collegiate Charter School in Boston, MA. He is currently a PARCC Educator Leader Fellow for the state of Massachusetts and was a member of the state model curriculum development team for high school mathematics.
At the school level he is working on One Dorchester, a collaborative project between a district, charter, and Catholic school in Boston, around implementation of common core-aligned performance tasks in ELA, mathematics, physics, and history. He is also working alongside a team of teachers and principals who are documenting their transition to the new standards through a collaborative project with The Achievement Network. He also recently finished a rewarding federally funded partnership on high school mathematics with the Jeremiah E. Burke High School, a Boston Public School, and Boston Collegiate working on transitioning to the new standards. Each day Darren is fortunate to support elementary, middle, and high school teachers as an instructional coach as well as principals in maintaining a happy, balanced, and rigorous instructional culture.
Besides curating common core resources around the clock on Twitter and blogs, Darren is also grateful to have a wonderful wife and three small girls with whom to share his life.
