Barry Stohlman
Barry Stohlman, Entrepreneur and Business Manager
Barry Stohlman brings more than two decades of experience as a small business owner, and a decade of working in independent school governance, to his present role as Business Manager to The Avalon School and Brookewood School.
Prior to joining the faculty in July 2019, he was a partner in the building firm of Stohlman~Kilner Construction. Earlier in his career, Barry worked as a master cabinetmaker in Northern Italy for nine years, before returning to the United States and opening his business as a custom cabinetmaker.
A founder of Brookewood School, he also has served as a member and chairman of the Board of Trustees for Avalon and Brookewood, providing fiduciary oversight and guidance to the schools. A native Bethesda, he attended Archbishop Carroll High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Philosophy from The Catholic University of America. It was there he met an Italian exchange student, Laura, who he eventually followed to Italy and married.
Barry and Laura have eight children and four grandchildren. After many years in the suburban area of Washington DC, part of the family moved to the country in Boyds, MD, where they now raise pigs and other farm animals for meat, which Barry cures himself.
